Chapter 12
Summary

"We were sneaking in to tell him what Russia had done to try to help elect him." Comey makes this bold statement. Comey and other heads of the country's intelligence were on their way to Trump Towers to inform the President-elect, Donald Trump, that he had won the election with the help of Russians. The conclusion was blunt; that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, had ordered for a full-scale interference with the 2016 United States elections. At the Trump Tower meeting, the team had decided to bring another material to the attention of the President-elect. The document was titled the ‘the Steele dossier.' The document contained alleged sexual encounters between Trump and prostitutes in Russia. The decision of this team to bring this document to the attention of the President-elect was in line with the mission of the book, in which truth is of the essence in leadership.

Analysis

Approaching a man, the United States President-elect, with an avalanche of allegations concerning his alleged misdeeds can at times be a daunting task. The issue becomes complicated when the allegations have not been confirmed but instead rely on ‘reliable sources.' Comey and his team proved their allegiance to the rule of law and their service to Americans when they indicated their intention to confront the president-elect with the accusations. Just like in the previous case involving Hillary Clinton, Comey was consistent in his application of the law on the allegations against Trump a well as the Russian involvement. All these confirm that Comey was loyal to his service as much as he was also on the side of the truth.
