Chapter 39
Summary

The chapter opens with Ziggy and his mother at the beach making a sandcastle. Jane carefully informs Ziggy that she had met with the principal who informed her that someone in Ziggy’s class has been hurting Amabella secretly (Moriarty 206). Despite seeming uninterested, he continues to construct his sandcastle. However, when Jane asks whether it was him, Ziggy immediately replies, “I don’t want to talk about it” (Moriarty 207).

Analysis

Jane attempts to persuade Ziggy to open up about Amabella’s harassment. However, Ziggy’s answer leaves the readers wondering whether his answer was evidence of guilt.
