Chapter 62
Summary

In this chapter, Madeline and Abigail end up quarrelling in the car as she tries to persuade her daughter to take down the web site. She understands that Abigail wants to create awareness. But the setting is too dramatic and the only thing people see is a fourteen-year-old girl auctioning off her virginity via a web site (Moriarty 289). Madeline tries to tell Abigail that the experience of losing her virginity to a stranger will not be as romantic as she thinks, but will be painful and vile instead.

Analysis

Madeline is trying to show Abigail that her actions were wrong. Although her daughter is empathetic about the young girls that are experiencing sexual abuse, it is evident that — with proper guidance — Abigail could have come up with other ways of helping them. However, it appears as though the freedom given to her by Bonnie and Nathan have contributed to the ensuing actions, which will end up hurting for her years.
