Chapter 71
Summary

Perry and Celeste are driving to the school to attend the trivia night. While driving to the trivia night, Celeste tells Perry that Max has been harassing Amabella and Skye (Moriarty 319). Perry states that he will talk to Max before leaving. Celeste asks Perry whether he will tell his son that a woman should be respected. They end up discussing the issue of Celeste leaving him, this time for good. Perry apologizes and states that he will quit his job and seek professional help (Moriarty 320-321). Celeste tells him that they cannot bring up the boys like that, and that it is truly over between them.

Analysis

The author shows the readers that Perry does have an emotional disorder. He states that he is often unaware when hurting Celeste and feels bad after abusing her. However, Celeste has listened to the same excuses countless times that she is tired of bearing it any further.
