Chapter 73
Summary

Jane and Tom watch quietly as the parents start getting drunk. Someone calls Tom while Miss Barnes talks to Jane about the petition, as well as the stress, at work. She informs Jane that she gets e-mails from parents every day about the bullying, with some volunteering to help at school. To add insult to injury, when the parents do not hear from her regarding their offer, they send a carbon copy of the email to Mrs. Lipmann (Moriarty 328-329). As Miss Barnes continues her rant, Jane starts to search for Tom. When the two locate each other, they keep on smiling at each another from a distance. Celeste appears in front of Jane and requests to talk to her.

Analysis

It is apparent that the parents are drunk and mostly unaware of their actions. The bullying at Pirriwee’s kindergarten has grown to become a huge issue and parents are worried about the kind of environment their kids are being exposed to. On the other hand, Jane and Tom are falling in love and cannot hide their affection towards one another.
