Chapter 9
Summary

Chapter nine highlights how Trump regards himself as a nice person. He explains that his behavior is different from that of “normal” politicians and is keen to point out that t he unlike others never shies from telling the truth. He also points out that he always answers the specific questions he is asked, without avoiding the subject matter. He acknowledges that he is, however, always ready to fights back whenever attacked. Trump discusses that his actions are important in protecting him against aggression (Trump 71). He is aware that a nice person can lose in the political arena if they allow others to manipulate them. Therefore, he attempts to take the position of strength which is likely to protect him accordingly and ensure that he survives any challenge that comes his way (Trump 73). Trump states that while running for office, he never considered winning by 55%, which would imply that 45% of voters voted against him. This shows that he was aiming to win by a larger margin to prevent being the subject of attacks and ultimately losing.

Analysis

The optimism of Trump as a presidential aspirant is extensively evident in this chapter; he actually nicely portrays himself as a ‘good person.’ In this chapter, Trump discusses that many people regard him as a ‘bad person’ because he never allows himself to finish last and lose, a thing which he says many good people do. For him it better not to avoid the truth for the sec of avoiding controversy stating; “I tell the truth. I am not afraid to say exactly what I believe” (Trump 61). In this way, he demonstrates how it has always been important for him, regardless of how nice he is, to realize that he has to fight for what he wants as a person and that is what he was actually doing for the US when he wanted to be president. Similarly, he tells the US voters that they were also required be ready to face the challenges that lay on their way if they needed change from a ‘good president.’ His confidence on winning the presidential election with a huge margin as portrayed in this chapter was also likely to lure more voters on his side and to boost his presidential bid. His optimism and confidence as portrayed in this chapter would also increase willingness his supporters to continue supporting him and bring on board more supporters.
