Robinson Crusoe

The protagonist of the novel, everything is told from Crusoe’s perspective. He is a merchant, plantation owner and adventurer who has to spend almost thirty years on a deserted island after his ship is destroyed.

Friday

He is a native and Crusoe’s companion from the moment he saves him, following him on his adventures.

Xury

He is Crusoe’s first servant and companion after they both escape from the Moors.
Captain’s Widow: She helps Crusoe with his savings and helps him settle in England upon his return.

Portuguese Captain

He rescues young Crusoe and Xury and Crusoe meets him again in Lisbon after he returns from the island.

English Captain

Victim of a mutiny on his own ship, he helps Crusoe return to England after he helps him end the mutiny.

The Spaniard

A Spanish man whose ship was destroyed off Crusoe’s island and who is rescued by him.

Crusoe’s Father

He is one of the first people mentioned in the book, giving Crusoe advice, and is mentioned throughout when Crusoe feels bad for not following his advice.

Crusoe’s Mother

She tries to help Crusoe by telling him to listen to his father.

Ismael

He is a moor who is sent on a fishing trip with Crusoe and Xury and gets thrown in the water by Crusoe.

Pirate Captain

He is Crusoe’s slave master for a while, originally a Moroccan captain.

Wells

Wells is Crusoe’s only neighbor in Brazil. He also owns a plantation.

Poll

Poll is a parrot that Crusoe catches and keeps as a pet, teaching it to speak.
