Shattered - Inside Hillary Clintons Doomed Campaign
Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen

Chapter 20

The results caught Clinton and her campaign staffers by surprise. They did not expect to lose the election to Trump. Her team had been unable to forecast his turnout; nobody could believe that they lost in states like Florida and North Carolina. Clinton did not want to concede to Trump, and some of her aides encouraged her not to. However, for the sake of the nation, she chose to back down (Allen and Parnes 320). Obama called and asked her to give up the race. Clinton thought she had let everyone down including the country, the president, and herself. The Obama’s legacy was now at risk. The deficiencies of her campaign strategies were now clear to her and the campaign team (Allen and Parnes 326). Eventually, she called Trump and congratulated him (Allen and Parnes 327).

The authors use this chapter, to show how optimistic Clinton was even when she was losing. She was so fixated on the idea of becoming the president that everything became a blur to her. Now, the reality began to hit her, and she could not believe it. Indeed, she had failed everybody who believed in her. The mistakes of her campaign were now clear, and there was nothing she could do about it. It was over for her, and Trump’s victory speech shattered her ultimate dream of becoming POTUS.
