Chapter 11
Summary

Law Eleven: Learn to Keep People Dependent on You

Analysis

A person needs to establish a way that would make him more wanted and needed by others. It is through such a process that the person is likely to maintain his independence. The more other people rely on a person, the freer such a person becomes (Greene 82). Where other people depend on a person depend on one for prosperity and happiness, the lesser the individual is likely to fear. A person should not teach others enough so that they learn to live without his assistance. An unnamed mercenary soldier had managed to save the town of Siena from an external aggressor (Greene 83). Once the people felt that they could not reward him enough, they decided to kill him so they would live to worship him. The situation, therefore, shows that the soldier was not keen to make people totally dependent on him to keep his life.
