Chapter 27
Summary

Law Twenty-Seven: Play on People's Need to Believe to Create a Cult-like Following

Analysis

People normally have a great desire to believe in something. A person, therefore, needs to be a center of such desire (Greene 215). He needs to evoke some form of following from such people that may make them look up to the person. A person also needs to keep his words vague but maintain a lot of promise, therein. The disciples need to have the willingness to make a lot of sacrifices for the individual. An instance is provided of the great European chartalians who existed between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries (Greene 216). They practiced organized religion, which was able to accord them some level of cult-like following. People were, thus, more concerned with establishing some of the ways through which they could follow the chartalians.
