Chapter 37
Summary

On the verandah, Nathan helps Sophie practice her guitar while Lo paints another picture. Xander hands Nathan a piece of paper with his school schedule and tells him they should plan something to do together during any of the upcoming holidays, and that he should visit him in Brisbane. Lo later tells Nathan that it was not the stockman’s grave that she was afraid of, but her father, Cameron. Nathan assures her that he is gone and that both Sophie and Lo are safe. Nathan heads to the house and takes Cameron`s artwork off the wall before asking Sophie to choose between that painting and the one Lo drew. As Sophie decides that Lo’s is the superior painting, Nathan notices the envelop strapped at the back of the picture.

Analysis

Nathan helps his nieces heal from the trauma of losing their dad by teaching Sophie how to play the guitar and by praising Lo’s paintings. As Nathan notices the envelope taped to the back of the painting, he finally understands why everyone had insisted that the painting was not supposed to be touched or moved. It appeared that Liz had taped the envelope behind the painting to ensure that no one would be able to find it, with Cameron forbidding people to touch his artwork.
