Analysis

Campaigning in America is always very difficult. In a country where the electorate is extremely aware of the unfulfilled promises that politicians make, the political players usually resort to the use of tactics that may give them an advantage over their rivals. In this election, McCain indicates that he was determined to make sure that he conducted the campaigns in a way that was as clean as possible, knowing that any negativity would cause massive divisions to the country. He made promises that addressed the most immediate needs of the population while at the same time ensuring that the country remained united. Here, McCain appears to indicate that the interests of the country took precedence over his presidential bid.
