Part 4 Chapter 65
Summary

Britain continues to refuse any capitulation by the Germans, thus angering German leaders who were perplexed by such decisions. In the hopes of coming to some sort of agreement, Rudolf Hess attempts to fly to Scotland, but mechanical difficulties force the excursion to turn back.

Analysis

The most exciting part of this chapter was the willingness of Rudolf Hess to travel to Scotland to garner some peace agreement with Britain. With Germany fighting on the Russian front, coming to a deal with Britain was even more paramount. Although Hess was unable to make it to Scotland, the attempt itself says a lot about the mindset of Berlin and within the German high command. One could imagine what the war would end up looking like if Hess successfully made it to Scotland and had the chance to seek a peace settlement with Britain.
