Chapter 11 Feel
Summary

After less than a week of sobriety, Glennon struggled with the amount that she had to feel. She describes how hard it is just to live, saying that it feels like she is doing everything wrong — being the reason why she started drinking in the first place. A woman at the meeting later told her that she had to feel everything to be fully human, even if it hurts. Glennon thought that one was supposed to feel happiness, and hide or ignore all other feelings. She has a revelation that she can feel pain, survive, and use it to become a better version of herself.

Analysis

By taking pain and turning it into something positive, she is inspiring readers to let themselves hurt and know that it will be okay in the end, in the same way that one has to do work in order to get paid.
