Chapter 34 Talks
Summary

As a 12-year-old, Tish was convinced that the idea of beauty sold in magazines was a lie and that women should treat each other equally based on their character. In contrast, a 12-year-old Glennon tried her utmost best to match the girls on covers. Along with their discussion about beauty, Glennon teaches Tish to disappoint whoever she needs to in order to avoid disappointing herself. Finally, she tells her that it is not a problem to have somebody else dislike you.

Analysis

Glennon truly believes that Tish should not change her opinions, desires, or true self in order to make others happy. She contrasts these positive discussions with past negative ones in order to properly show the huge personal growth she made, along with the strength of her daughter, who was able to understand something that Glennon struggled with for decades.
