Chapter 51 Invaders
Summary

Glennon describes depression and anxiety as invaders or “body snatchers” because they stop her from living in the moment. However, many of her traits that lead to these issues also result in better parts of her personality. Sensitivity leads to her addiction and to her artistic ability, while anxiety creates a life that feels difficult to live in (but also leads her to want to make a change in the world that gives her anxiety).

Analysis

While Glennon’s mental health issues cause problems in her life, they are also part of her. They are a result of her complete set of traits and experiences and are a part of her truest self. Though they hurt, they are necessary for experiencing her full humanity, discerning what needs to change and how to change it.
