Chapter 13
Summary

Hillary still believes that the entire fuss regarding her emails dominated the 2016 presidential election and because of that, she wanted to share with her readers in this part what really happened and why it wasn't a situation that would damage in any way the state. She confirms that the decision to use a personal email instead of a governmental one was her one but always took care regarding classified information. The fuss started when she decided to move the email account from AT&T server to her husband's one. People accused her that the server could have been vulnerable to hacking but she defended herself by stating that the State's department network was also hacked several times and many information were compromised during those times.

In order to prove to everyone that she didn't send any message that would put in danger the State, she provided the state department with over 30,000 emails. A majority of them were considered purely personal and wasn't important for this case. Once her candidacy was announced, the scandal became even bigger and everyone was focusing on it. Hillary even released all her emails to the press so they were publicly available which would mean full transparency as the people requested. Those who read that information regain their trust in her but a majority of them never opened them and prefer to believe what the Republicans already publicly announced. There was even a moment when people asked for a criminal investigation but the justice department declined it.

She still remembers that on June 2016 the FBI was ready to talk to her and listen to her version of the story. The interview lasted around 3 and a half hours and she provided them with a variety of information. James Comey, the previous director of FBI, revived the email story a few days before the votings by stating that the agency found suspicious information in her emails but could not offer any declaration regarding them yet. Eventually, when Hillary's campaign members confronted him, he declared that the "new" emails were actually old and that it was all a mistake.

Analysis

As we can see, during the last days before the voting, the story of the emails was one of the most discussed subjects. In her opinion and probably in almost everyone's opinion her mistake from the past was a major element that led to her loss. Hillary is still presented as a powerful woman as she has no intention in declining the information which became viral regarding her but continues fighting and proving that there was nothing wrong in what she did. Providing the media with all those emails represents another act which should prove the people that she has nothing to hide. Even so, this scandal continued shadowing her campaign in the worst possible times. Comparisons with Trump's mistakes are presented on every page of this chapter but she underlines the fact that none of them got the same media attention as hers. Once again, we are able to understand how mistakes that seem irrelevant can have a huge impact and influence a person career.
