Chapter 37
Summary

The chapter catches up with Kya for the first time on the future side of the timeline, the police have started coming to call on her home so often she’s taken to traveling to Jumpin’s early in the morning. It’s a few days before Christmas in 1969 when she travels to his shop, she waves out to Jumpin, and he doesn’t wave back, suddenly having the feeling that something is wrong she goes to turn back. In an instant, the Sheriff and other supporting law enforcement surround her in boats and although she attempts to evade and outmaneuver them, she is trapped by the group and arrested for the murder of Chase Andrews. 

Analysis

“Miss Catherine Clark, you’re under arrest for the murder of Mr. Chase Andrews. Ya have the right to remain silent . . .” There was no questioning involved or due process. She was arrested for being the marsh girl, who was the most convenient suspect in this case.
